A person suffer from diabetes when his/her blood sugar (blood glucose) level is too high. However , blood glucose is the main source of energy which comes from the food we eat. But when it’s levels are too high a person is said to be suffering from diabetes. There are two types of diabetes :
Type 1 Diabetes :
Type 1 diabetes, which is often diagnosed in children or young adults, is treated with insulin. Type 1 diabetes is caused by an abnormal immune reaction that destroys the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. It’s believed that a combination of genes and an environmental trigger, such as a virus, interact to cause type 1 diabetes. Some symptoms include excessive thirst and urination, slow wound healing, tingling and numbness in feet, fatigue, and unexpected weight loss. While there is no cure, the condition can be properly managed with insulin therapy and a healthy lifestyle. A wide range of support and education for patients with type 1 diabetes is crucial for successful blood sugar control.
Type 2 Diabetes:
In type 2 diabetes your pancreas makes some insulin but not as much as your body needs, or it does not work effectively, or a combination of both.
This leads to high blood glucose levels.
Type 2 diabetes results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Genes play a significant role. Risk is greatly increased by lifestyle issues such as
high blood pressure, being overweight, insufficient physical activity, a poor diet, and the classic ‘apple shape’ body where extra weight is carried around the waist.Type 2 diabetes , which is commonly found in people aging 45 or above.
